PDSA 1To introduce the OTAS and apply it to only one shift reporting to obstetric triage
(2 February to 8 February 2020).
The team spent 1 week studying the maternal and fetal outcomes after applying the OTAS for triaging of emergency obstetric patients initially only in the afternoon shift of 14:00–22:00.The scale was easy to use, reduced patient waiting time, and by the end of 1 week, the proportion of women correctly triaged had risen to 65%.Based on the positive feedback, it was decided to apply the scale to all patients coming to triage.
PDSA 2Spread the application of the scale to all patients reporting to obstetric triage in all shifts
(9 February to 22 February 2020).
The application of OTAS was expanded to all the patients reporting to triage in all the shifts for 2 weeks.There was sustained application and improvement in outcomes, and the proportion of women correctly triaged had risen to 75%.Retain scale introduction to all patients.
